Overhaul Update: Main Bearings from Canada

Correct main bearing set shipment...at last!

Finally, the correct three main bearing set has arrived from Sports Imports (c/o Ross Mullen) located in Vancouver, Canada. Actually, I already received the main bearing set way back on March 24, but disastrously it was the wrong main bearing specification. It was a totally different set and wasn't for an R16 engine. So I had to send back the main bearings and Ross had to ship the correct ones the next day (March 25).

Wrong Three Main Engine Bearing Set...bummer!

Unfortunately, the package arrived nearly a month after (the Q.C. Central Post Office notice just arrived yesterday) and the overhaul has been delayed for quite some time. The only consolation was that I just paid P35 for the inspection fee...no more customs duties (previous shipment cost me P1,500+ for the importation tax!).

It's been quite a busy day as I had to go back and forth from R and R to the machine shop in Timog (A. Roque) a couple of times to haul the needed parts. I also bought new valve seals (P250 - 8 pieces) and a complete valve set (P950) from Fernando's Auto Supply in Aurora Blvd...good thing I didn't have any problems looking for the parts.

New Set of Valves (8 pieces)

I also brought the needed parts to the machine shop: main bearings, con-rod bearings, camshaft bearings, valves, and valve seals. I hope they finish the fitting of the parts by next week. The guys at A. Roque check-out and measured the new parts first to make sure I had brought the correct specifications. So far so good.

Old Intake (Big) and Exhaust (Small) Valves

New Exhaust Valve (Japan made)

I was tempted to have the head port polished, but it would cost another P3,960 for the job. I'll have to take a rain check on that one...until I get the budget.

I can't wait to drive my Fairlady!!!
